the lake house

we couldn't be more different. in terms of background, idealogy, and goals you might wonder why it works. but somehow when we all come together we share something so precious that would have been sad to miss.

i met these girls a few years ago when i moved onto the colgate team at vml. we were responsible for ensuring colgate-palmolive had the best interactive possible and our team worked like a machine. we all had different strengths, responsibilities, and shortcomings, but the best part of it was we genuinely cared about each other. how often is it that you find friends that you can't imagine your life without in the midst of a terribly stressful job? for us, it was magic. over the years we've stood by each other through tears in the bathroom, monumental (or so we thought) job goofs, marriages, bar exams, pregnancies, babies, a sick baby, a brain tumor, divorce, and one by one leaving that team to pursue other opportunities.

when i decided to leave that job my heart broke at the thought of losing these women that taught me so much, so i initiated a book club. we meet each month to discuss the hostess choice but mostly our lives. all the while enjoying good wine and the company at hand. we call on each other for career, family, financial, and just life advice.

this weekend was our time to spend more than a couple of hours together. we piled, literally, into clare's tahoe and made our way to arkansas. erin's wonderful parents hosted us, and while they call it a lake house i might call it a dream house. from the reclaimed wooden floors to the deck that overlooked the water this place in the middle of the woods couldn't have been a better location for us to recharge.

giggling like 10 year olds until 3 in the morning and deep conversation on the dock gave us that much more investment in each other. i had the best time and couldn't be more grateful for my "good for the soul friends" as jan says.

we missed morgan, rusti, brandi, and carly, but they'll come next time.
